Menu Plan Monday...
This weekend I made something I haven't had since I was a little girl. I spent a lot of time with my dad's parents growing up and I loved helping my Nanny in the kitchen. She made homemade peach fried pies and I always crimped the edges. A few years before Nanny passed away, she sent me her recipe box with lots of family favorites. She hand wrote little notes to me on some of the recipes. A few weeks ago I opened up the box and there was a note from her in there and it just made me cry. The more I looked through it, the harder I cried. I really miss her. I love having her recipe box and when I make something out of it, it really brings back memories!! So, I made up a batch of her peach fried pies and they were just as I remembered them.....DELICIOUS!! If you want the recipe, scroll down under this week's MPM!

Homemade Fried Pies
2 c. flour
1/2 c. Crisco
dash of salt
1 t. baking powder
5 T. water (I used 6)
Mix all together. Roll out and cut crusts the size of a saucer. (I placed a bowl upside down on mine to cut it.) Put two tablespoons of cooked down fruit (we like peaches...even better if you can get them from a local farmer!!) in center of rounds. Fold and pinch edges together to seal. (I used the edge of a fork once I sealed it to give it that crimped look.) Fry in one inch deep oil. Turn and cook other side. When both sides are browned, remove from oil to a napkin to drain.

18th Century Craft Fair....
WARNING: This post is VERY graphic heavy!!
On Saturday (9-15) we went to Mt. Vernon and they were having an 18th century craft fair. It was lots of fun! The sightseeing boat tour was free, so we did that and Logan really loved it. We purchased the annual passes, so we will go back often. Lucas loved being able to run and play. I think he loved the rope fences the most!! Here are some pictures from our day!!
Don't say I didn't warn you. Trust me, I have a lot more photos, but these were some of my favorites :)!!

Menu Plan Monday--
This weekend we had a lot of fun. It was to be a high of 75 on Saturday, and I had thought about going to the D.C. Zoo. However, while browsing the internet, I found out that there was going to be an 18th century craft fair at Mt. Vernon. It was a lot of fun!! We purchased the annual pass so that we can go back more often. Really, it makes the most sense. It is only $5 more to get the annual pass. We just went in May with my sister and we should have bought them then. Not only would we have saved money, we wouldn't have had to wait in line to purchase our tickets on Saturday. But....we've got them now and we will be going back lots!! Here is a picture....I'll post more later!
I 'm not sure what has gotten into me. I'm planning my meals, I'm just not cooking them everyday like I typically do. The good news is that we haven't gone out to eat this past week on the nights I didn't cook. We have eaten either leftovers or sandwiches, etc...
*=new recipe
Monday--sweet n spicy kielbasa, mashed sweet potatoes, corn on the cob
Tuesday----taco salad (We ended up not having this last week)
Wednesday--pasta wheels with marinara sauce, salad, green beans
Thursday--orange chicken* (I STILL haven't gotten around to trying this), Jasmine rice, stir fry veggies, store bought egg rolls
Friday--honey mustard chicken, corn on the cob, salad
Saturday/Sunday--leftovers

Menu Plan Monday...
Last week I posted about Lucas being small and having lots of blood tests done. You can read the results here.
We've also been enjoying more of Barb's spaghetti sauce in the form of mini pizzas. The sauce has the leftover Italian sausage that I cooked and we just put that on English muffins with cheese and fresh tomato from the farmer's market. YUMMY!!
I'm not sure what order we will have these in...
I didn't get to these last week:
*=new recipe
--fish, pasta with sauce, Syrian green beans
--taco salad
--orange chicken*, Jasmine rice, stir fry veggies, store bought egg rolls
And added these in this week....
--buffalo dogs (never had this...from farmer's market), fries, fruit
--sweet n spicy kielbasa, mashed sweet potatoes, corn on the cob
--honey mustard chicken, leftover potatoes (from crock pot pork chops and potatoes from Friday), carrots

Logan loves to talk....
Over the weekend, Logan talked to his grandma (my MIL). I practically had to pry the phone off of his ear!! Everytime that he talks to her, he never forgets to remind her that he likes fudge and bonbon cookies. She has sent those two things to him in the past and he isn't one to forget.

Lucas' test results.....
I don't have a whole lot of news, but it seems they are not worried too much by the results of the latest round of tests. The urine is still pending, though. The LPN had originally told me that he was anemic, but that some other numbers on his blood work made them believe it wasn't an iron defeciency anemia. However, today that is what she told me...that he has an iron defeciency. I go in next week to discuss the results more in depth and do a weight check. So....it seems all is well with my LITTLE Lucas (well, nothing major wrong anyway)!!
